I agree. We did a similar experiment. We "GoodGuided" our entire grocery list for a week to see if it was do-able and affordable. (You can check it out at http://talesofgoodness.com/2011/05/31/spend-responsibly-goodguide-your-groceries/ if you like.) In the end, it's worth it for us. Apparently GoodGuide now has an iphone app that can be used to find ratings while at the grocery store - that could be useful too.

I wish I read this post before going to Istanbul! I loved all the pickled products there and would have loved to stop by this shop.I actually found your post searching for turkish canning recipes. Each spring I make a schedule of all the canning and freezing I want to do for the season and would really like to try making my own turkish peppers. Please let me know if you know of any websites or books that might have this information.
Thanks!

Nicole, I can't seem to download the Italian Chicken & Escarole Soup. I get the Mole one instead.

By the way, your recipes look awesome. I am downloading almost all of them and have recently ordered your "Secrets from a Caterer's Kitchen" book after trying one of your recipes from there printed long ago in a local newspaper (Can't remember the title of it, something like "Sun-Dried Tomato and Pesto Torta"). I made it during this past Christmas holiday season and it was excellent!
