Thai Marinated Shrimp Kebabs
Elements of the popular Tom Ka Gai soup from Thailand—coconut milk, cilantro, lime, and chile—are used as a marinade for these shrimp skewers. Serve them as an appetizer or on a bed of basmati rice as a main course.

BEST-OF-THE-MARKET COOKING PARTY
I really, really love parties. I love going to them and (hey, it’s my job) I love giving them. And I’m as lazy and overworked as you are. So this new age kind of collaborative cooking party has become my favorite way to entertain.
I invite 6 to 10 friends over to [...]
I just pulled out my Thai Banana Crab Cake recipe for a party I’m planning next week and shuddered. Don’t get me wrong, it’s one of my all-time favorite recipes. But, the last time I prepared it…oh boy. Have you ever completely embarrassed yourself with a dish you served? Well I have, and it was with [...]
This simple pasta dish is reminiscent of great seafood dishes I’ve enjoyed at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. There is a lot of wonderful, wine-infused broth, so serve the Fisherman’s Catch in a soup bowl or pasta plate.
These light, fresh tacos are popular street food from Mexico’s Baja region whose popularity has definitely crossed the border. There are 4 essential components of great fish tacos: salsa, cabbage salad or relish, grilled or fried fish and corn tortillas. They’re all here, plus I’ve given this a fresh, vivid twist by making a citrus salsa (mind you, this still has plenty of kick) and a very classy slaw that could stand alone as a side dish for any event where cole slaw is called for.
The bold flavors of the Mediterranean are a perfect complement to these large, juicy shrimp. This is a a two-step recipe and the shrimp and tomato sauce portion may be baked alone. However, with the addition of the orzo layer, you have the convenience of protein and starch all in one dish. Add sautéed green beans or spinach for a simple, festive supper.
I decided that a party to launch the new home (url) for this blog was at least as important as those I’ve thrown for new books. And all of you would be invited to celebrate this beautiful, easy-to-navigate new spot. This post includes recipes for some of the dishes we might enjoy , all of which are in my books, too.
This cold curried soup really makes the best use of our wonderful local Dungeness crab in an unusual preparation that’s ideal for summer. Serve this filling soup for lunch or start with a cold Asian noodle salad and you’ve got a knock-out, easy company supper.
A quick and easy supper, this hearty soup has the bright flavors of a dish you’d find for sale under a palapa on the beach in Mazatlan. As an optional garnish, lightly fry strips of corn tortilla to scatter over the top.
This recipe is perfect for a crowd; Jambalaya is really great party food. Or, divide it into thirds and freeze two batches for later.
