Simple syrup is the best way to sweeten any cold beverage, from Agua Fresca to iced tea or a Mojito. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, so I make a large batch to have on hand.

In future posts, I’ll include recipes for creating simple syrup variations with fresh fruit and herb infusions that will knock your socks off.

EASE OF PREPARATION: A snap

Makes 2 cups

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  1. Combine the water and the sugar in a saucepan. Stir to mix. Place over medium-high heat to dissolve the sugar.
  2. As soon as the syrup comes to a rolling boil and is completely clear (all of the sugar is dissolved), remove it from the heat. Let it cool and the refrigerate the syrup in a sealed container.
